Dorato Valmalenco is a metamorphic rock with well defined foliation layers in planar and sub-parallel arrangement. The gray-light brown colour is enriched by silvery and golden reflections along the schistosity planes, with some light green nuances. It presents a fine grain size, light gray in colour with gold shimmers; thanks to the light-coloured mica, chlorite and quartz crystals, the oriented and planar texture features a unique veined appearance.
The colours of the metamorphic rock of the Serpentinites, with their very fine (from sub-millimetre to millimetre) grain, turn to green and dark grey. Occasionally Serpentine is enriched by some millimetre-sized brown bands, linked to the concentrations of olivine and antigorite, or by thin black layers due to the presence of magnetite.
